Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration

Below are the suggested plans of study for full-time and part-time students of the BSN-DNP Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner concentration.

The program of study for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) concentration includes 23 courses. Students must fulfill the requirements for the program as they work closely with advisors to plan their course of study. The focus of the DNP program core is leadership in nursing practice.

Skills will be developed for translating research to impact practice and population outcomes at an in-depth level. Emphasis is placed on managing information systems, using appropriate technology for health care delivery, assessing and managing health risks, enhancing inter-professional communication, and designing and developing health care systems.

Successful completion of all courses in the curriculum core is required for graduation. The focus of the AGPCNP concentration is on advanced practice nursing skills to care for patients 13 and older, including the frail elderly, in primary care.

  • NSGL 639 has 240 clinical hours associated with it. Practicum requires a minimum of 60 hours of frail elderly care within NSGL 636, 637, 638, 639.

*NSG 697 DNP Project will focus on implementation of the DNP project.
**NSGL 638 has 180 clinical hours associated with it. Practicum requires minimum of 60 hours of frail elderly care within NSG 636, 637, 638, 639.

  • NSG 698 DNP Project III* (3 hrs)
  • NSGL 639 Advanced Adult-Gerontology Nursing Practicum IV ** (4 hrs)

TOTAL: 7 credit hours

*NSG 698 will focus on the evaluation of findings.
**NSGL 639 has 240 clinical hours associated with it. Practicum requires a minimum of 60 hours of frail elderly care within NSG 636, 637, 638, 639.

Degree Credit Total: 72 hours

Exit Requirements

All DNP students must:

  1. Complete and pass a written and oral comprehensive examination of the DNP Project.
  2. A DNP student must have a grade of B or better in each required course. If a student earns a C, they must repeat the course must earn a B or better to progress. A student will only be allowed to repeat one course during the program. A student with 2 or more C’s will be dismissed from the program. A student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  3. Total of 1,000 clinical hours (500 direct patient care clinical hours, and 500 non patient care hours).
