Limited Submissions
Limited Submission Opportunities
NEH will not be running a competition for the Summer Stipends program in 2025. Contact the Research Development Office if you are interested in finding similar funding opportunities.
- The Research Development Office is closely monitoring the situation to determine if/when a new opportunity opens, if it will be substantially changed from previous cycles, and when we would launch the internal competition for the limited submission process.
The NSF MRI website currently states there are no upcoming due dates, and the program is waiting for a new publication.
From the NSF: The merit review process for MRI proposals submitted in Fiscal Year 2025 in response to solicitation NSF 23-519: Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program: Instrument Acquisition or Development is continuing, and we expect that it will conclude before the end of FY 2026. NSF anticipates issuing an updated MRI solicitation later in FY 2026 for an opportunity to submit proposals in FY 2027. Please monitor this page and the NSF funding search for updates.
- On July 1, 2025, the U.S. National Science Foundation announced that it will not accept new proposals for the NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program during the previously scheduled FY 2026 submission window (October 15 – November 14, 2025). Any proposals submitted during this period will be returned without review. NSF currently has many meritorious proposals from the FY 2025 submission window (October 15 – November 15, 2024). Subject to the availability of funds, NSF will instead consider funding additional awards from this cohort in FY 2026. The NSF MRI program anticipates accepting new proposals again during the next submission window, scheduled for October 15 – November 16, 2026.

Research Opportunities Initiative Launch
UNC ROI provides targeted funding for innovative and potentially game-changing research projects that can enrich North Carolina and develop new technologies and methodologies. Priority research areas eligible for ROI funding include advanced manufacturing, marine and coastal science; defense, military, and security; pharmacoengineering; energy; and data science. The UNC System ROI accepts proposals from any institution in the UNC System, and invite submissions that propose a large-scale initiative involving multiple strategies designed to deliberately support and increase the research footprint in one of the eligible areas. The initiative should have broad impact and involve multiple researches and collaborators. Since the UNC ROI is a limited submission UNCW is only allowed to select a single applicant to support their full application to the UNC ROI directly.
