There are two types of travel grants - Project Dissemination and Data Collection.
Project Dissemination grants are awarded to students who will be presenting their undergraduate research at conferences. Proof that your abstract has been accepted by the conference organizers is required. Submit your application through InfoReady.
Data Collection grants are awarded to students who need to travel for their research. Some examples include: traveling to field sites to collect water samples, traveling to talk to specific community members, or traveling to a specific archive. We interpret "data collection" quite broadly but the student will need to convince us that this travel is essential to the research. Ethics approvals (IRB or IACUC), including Not Human Subjects designation, are required before awards will be granted. Submit your application through InfoReady.
The maximum award for both grant types is $1000 and paid as reimbursement. Students are limited to one travel grant per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), regardless of how much is spent with that trip, and which type of grant they are awarded.
Allowable expenses include airfare, ground transportation, conference registration, lodging, and a per diem for food, and other expenses as allowed by university policy.
Due Dates: Applications for travel grants are accepted on a rolling basis until the source money is expended. Note that both grant types come from the same pot of money so once that is all allocated, both grant types will close. All university-sponsored travel needs to be pre-approved by the university so applications should be submitted as soon as you know you will be going to the conference or your ethics approvals have been received. Departments may have their own deadlines and paperwork to attend to in addition to the CSURF Travel Grant application.
